The College of Pharmacy has experienced tremendous growth over the last 40-50 years, reaching an enrollment of 545 professional students with more than 110 students in graduate and postdoctoral programs. The number of faculty has tripled in that same time period. The new facility can accommodate expanded class sizes by 50 to 75 students, thereby allowing Georgia to retain more of the state's top pharmacy students to alleviate the current shortage of pharmacists and to meet the expected growth demands of the population. Completion is expected in 2009.

The First Floor consists of a 200-seat classroom and a 6,104 net square foot Student Learning Center, with student computer stations and eight small student group rooms. A Student Affairs suite of offices will also occupy this floor. Other faculty and staff offices, totalling 6,192 net square feet, will be placed throughout the building.

The Second Floor contains a 200-seat classroom, plus two 30-seat classrooms and a 15-person seminar room. The remaining 6,015 net square feet of space is devoted to the Pharmacy Care Center, a teaching area that includes a community pharmacy, a hospital pharmacy, a sterile products room, an IV prep room and multi-purpose skills alcoves used for compounding, patient examinations and patient counseling. An office suite is also planned, along with two student lounges. The total net square footage devoted to classrooms is 11,314.

The Third Floor has a 30-seat classroom, a conference room, work space for graduate students and postdoctoral associates, and two open laboratory areas, large enough to accommodate six researchers. Tissue culture rooms, a hot lab, and an autoclave room complete the available space.

The Fourth Floor has work areas for graduate students and postdoctoral associates, a student lounge, a computer laboratory, a dark room and a 24-seat classroom. In addition are open research laboratories for four researchers and a demonstration laboratory. A total of 11,892 net square feet in the building is devoted to research laboratory space.
