Keith Herist, clinical assistant professor at the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy, has been named the first
treasurer of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, a national organization committed to pharmacy
education and educators. He was elected to serve a three-year term in a position created by the AACP House
of Delegates in July 2006.
Herist, who is also a certified public accountant, will serve concurrently as a member of the AACP board of directors and finance committee. Previously the immediate past AACP president served as chair of the finance committee. Changes in the non-profit governance and financial management regulations motivated the delegates to add the dedicated financial oversight in the treasurer's position.
Herist received his B.S. in accounting from Florida State University in 1978, his B.S. in Pharmacy and his Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy in 1996 and in 1997, respectively. He practiced as a community pharmacist at CVS Pharmacy, Eckerd Pharmacy, and Mid-Towne Medicine Centre in Atlanta, before joining the College faculty in 2002. He was voted Teacher of the Year for 2006 by students at the College of Pharmacy.
In addition, Herist was honored by the Georgia Pharmacy Association in June when he was named 2006 Distinguished Young Pharmacist at the 131st GPhA Annual Convention. Herist serves GPhA as a member of Pharm PAC, the GPhA Board of Directors and the Audit Committee. He is also a member of the American Pharmacists Association, and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, AIDS Athens, Inc., where he serves as treasurer and volunteer.
