Chancy Named Distinguished Alumnus of UGA College of Pharmacy

Hugh Chancy of Hahira was recently named Distinguished Alumnus of the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy during recent UGA Homecoming festivities. As the Distinguished Alumnus he received a framed certificate and will be marshal for the 2007 College of Pharmacy graduation.

The 1988 graduate is a community pharmacist and owner of Chancy Drugs in Hahira and Medical Arts Pharmacy in Adel. Chancy also serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Georgia Pharmacy Association (GPhA).

He has been a dedicated leader in GPhA, serving as GPhA President, member of the Academy of Independent Pharmacists (AIP) Executive Committee and Second Region President. He also served as GPhA's Region President from 1998-2000 and the South Georgia Pharmacy Association's President from 1990-92.

In 1998 Chancy received GPhA's Innovative Pharmacy Practice Award and in 1999 was named AIP's Pharmacist of the Year. This year he was honored with the Pharmacy Achievement award and the Bristol Myers Squibb Outgoing President's award for his service to GphA as its president.

His other professional affiliations include National Community Pharmacist Association, Pharmacy Compounding Centers of America, American Pharmacists Association, International Association of Compounding Pharmacists, and the Georgia Society of Health-System Pharmacists. He is an active member of PharmPac as a Platinum Dome Club donor.

Chancy is active in his community, serving as a member of the Lion's Club, Hahira/Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce, and Leadership Lowndes Association and as a Business Representative to the Hahira Middle School Council. He is also active in the Hahira United Methodist Church. Hugh and his wife, Tina, also a 1988 College of Pharmacy graduate, have two children, Patrick and Austin.

Also recognized at the ceremony was Dana Strickland, whom classmates named the Outstanding Alumnus of the Class of 1981. Strickland is director of development for the College of Pharmacy.
