The Grading System
Note: All work should be typed, double spaced with 12 point fonts to facilitate grading.
In class writing assignments and quizzes: (30%)
- the second patient visit relates to an assignment in our class, and will complete part of your first year experience requirement
- unannounced, but predictable, short answer essay format quizzes on reading material, prior lectures etc., a minimum of four will be offered, possibly a couple of more.
Outside Class Assignments (10%)
- homework's are assigned in class and due on an assigned date usually the next class period
Midterm exam (30%)
This exam presents a series of patient scenarios where you can write how you would respond to each patient in their particular situation.
Final Exam (30%)
- the final exam is competency based and requires students to demonstrate their counseling skills in a one-on-one patient counseling encounter (graded on the counseling evaluation form)
Extra Credit Points: (This is a great way to practice for the midterm/final exam!)
ASP Patient counseling competition (3 points for each level attained - 9 points possible)
- participation alone earns 3 points toward your PHRM 3900 final grade. The patient counseling competition is an excellent way to practice the skills taught in class. The way it works is that you are given a list of drugs (from ASP) to learn; then you counsel a patient. This process is videotaped and evaluated by faculty judges. You are competing with other students here at UGA, and a top 10 finish earns an extra 3 points, finalist status earns another 3 points.
The grading scale is as follows:
90-100 points = A
80-89 points = B
70-79 points = C
60-69 points = F
