--------The Nontraditional Doctor of Pharmacy Pathway Program--------

Portfolio Development

A portfolio system will be used to document each student’s past experience as well as experience gained while enrolled in the program of study. Each student’s portfolio will be comprised of two components, an initial portfolio and a program portfolio, as described below.

I. Initial Portfolio Development
The initial portfolio developed by the applicant will be assessed to determine his or her incoming knowledge and skills. Based on the assessment, a projected time line will be established to inform the applicant when she or he might be able to enter the program and if she or he needs to complete any prerequisites. The required components of the initial portfolio are detailed in the application packet (see the  NTPharmD Homepage for more information on application materials) and include the following criteria:

  1. Evidence of achievement of meeting objectives in prerequisite areas.
  2. Statement of intent and personal goals for pursuing the Pharm.D.
  3. Description of the scope of candidate’s experiences and current practice sites.
  4. Assessment of capability to use practice site as an educational training ground for pursuing the Pharm.D.
  5. A letter of support by the student’s employer to use practice site as an educational training ground for pursuing the Pharm.D.
  6. Two letters of recommendation.
  7. Evidence of access to computers and patients in a variety of practice settings.
  8. Distance learning and time management questionnaire.
  9. Listing of continuing education, certificate programs and other programs of study.
  10. Completed personal information profile (e.g., address, license #).
  11. Current resume/curriculum vitae.
  12. Transcript of pharmacy studies.

If you are interested in submitting an application for admission,  return to the Nontraditional Doctor of Pharmacy Pathway Program HomePage to download the Application Packet and Prerequisite Supplement Packet.   When completed, these packets fulfill the application requirements of the pathway program.  Because the pathway program is in the development stage, additional information may be requested from you that is not included as part of the above list or the application packet.  You will be notified if additional information is necessary to complete your application.

II. Program Portfolio Development Criteria
After entry into the Nontraditional Doctor of Pharmacy Pathway Program, students will assemble on ongoing portfolio to document patient care decisions and educational outcomes.  This portfolio consists of two parts:

  1. Documentation of Program Objectives  - Throughout the course of study, students will be required to provide ongoing documentation of experiences to demonstrate successful mastery of the terminal program objectives.

  2. Academic Credit for Professional Experience (optional) - Students have the opportunity to challenge some course-work based on previous credentials or experience.  The number and types of objectives with which the student can demonstrate appropriate performance will determine the amount of credit received. Students who receive credit for course work may still be required to complete selected recitation and practice-based exercises, projects and experiential assignments deemed necessary by the evaluation team.
