The laboratory for pharmaceutical and biomedical analysis has been in existence for over 30 years and is one of the oldest programs of study at the University of Georgia, College of Pharmacy. Over 50 students have been granted degrees under the participating faculty. The work of these students is reflected in the over 300 papers that have been published to date. Presently there is only one faculty member participating in the laboratory for pharmaceutical and biomedical analysis, Dr. Michael G. Bartlett. The Laboratory for Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis has over 1500 sq. ft. of lab space in the College of Pharmacy equipped with state of the art analytical instrumentation. Instrumentation includes a gas chromatography mass spectrometer equipped with an electron ionization source, a capillary electrophoresis system equipped with an ultraviolet detector, six high performance liquid chromatographs, two atmospheric pressure ionization triple quadrupole mass spectrometers equipped with LC/MS interfaces, and an atmospheric pressure ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer with LC/MS capabilities.
