Program Description
The primary objective of the Program in Clinical and Experimental Therapeutics at the University of Georgia, College of Pharmacy (henceforth referred to as the CET Program) is to provide an interdisciplinary as well as translational approach to graduate training in therapeutics and drug development research that connects the basic science laboratory with the clinical practice setting. This Ph.D. program has been designed to prepare students for professional careers devoted to medical and pharmaceutical research in academia, industry, and/or government. During the course of study, students are provided the necessary tools to develop and test a rational and scientifically based hypothesis that pertains to the development and/or use of therapeutic agents in humans suffering disease. While the course requirements for graduate students enrolled in the program cover both basic and clinical arenas, research opportunities allow students to focus on either experimental (basic) or clinical science tracks. The faculty members that comprise this program have a variety of health-related backgrounds and education and include Pharm. D’s, Ph.D’s, and M.D., Ph.D.’s. Furthermore, program members are stationed at both the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy campus in Athens, GA as well as at the Medical College of Georgia campus in Augusta. This allows for enhanced interdisciplinary interactions between the faculty of both institutions and joint efforts in both research and education. This also allows the program to take advantage of the wide varieties of clinical activities and research opportunities in the hospital systems affiliated with the Medical College.
